One Scent in Every Branch: How Multi-Location Businesses Keep Their Scent Consistent
For a business with several locations, scent can be one of the simplest ways to make every branch feel like the same brand. A customer who walks into your outlet in a mall in South Jakarta and another in Tangerang should recognise the same welcome. That only happens if the scent is managed as one programme, not as a separate purchase at each site.

Why consistency across branches matters
Recognition comes from repetition. Research has found that a pleasant ambient scent helped people remember and recognise brands, especially brands they didn't already know[1]. If each branch uses a different scent, or the same scent at very different strengths, that repetition never happens.
The challenge: no two branches are the same
The same scent behaves differently in different spaces:
- A small kiosk and a large flagship need very different output.
- A shop with an open front in a mall corridor loses scent faster than one with a closed glass door.
- Ceiling height, air-conditioning and busy hours vary from site to site.
- Opening hours may differ between a mall outlet, a street-front branch and an office-tower location.
So "the same scent everywhere" doesn't mean "the same machine and setting everywhere". It means the same fragrance, with each location set up to deliver a similar impression.
How to keep one scent consistent
1. Choose one main scent.
Pick a scent that fits the brand and works across your different formats. Simple, easy-to-recognise scents are a safe choice.
2. Survey each location.
Size, airflow and layout determine which machine to use and where to place it.
3. Set each branch for the same impression.
The goal is that a customer notices the scent on arrival at every branch, without it being stronger in one and barely there in another.
4. Use one source of oil.
Every refill should come from the same fragrance, so the scent doesn't drift from branch to branch or batch to batch.
5. Keep a single maintenance routine.
Refills and checks on a set schedule at every location, with one point of contact for the whole network.
6. Plan new openings.
When a new branch opens, the scent should be running from day one, so it feels like part of the brand immediately.
Library or signature scent?
A library scent used consistently already builds recognition. A custom signature scent goes a step further, because no other business can use it. Chains often start with a library scent at a few branches and roll out a signature scent once they know what works.
How DuraScent supports multi-location businesses
We survey each location, choose the machine from 20+ types to suit it, and use the same fragrance from our Scent Library of 40+ fragrances from European fragrance houses, or your custom signature scent, at every site. Our team refills and maintains every unit with a monthly Preventive Maintenance Visit, so you have one service and one point of contact for all your branches. Tell us your opening dates early and we'll schedule the survey and installation in time.
Scent supports atmosphere and brand impressions. It isn't a guarantee of higher sales.
